🛬 Tourist visa (short-term stay up to 90 days)
Citizens of most countries, including Serbia and EU countries, can stay in Spain for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. This stay is exclusively for tourism — it is not allowed to work, nor extend the stay for permanent residence.
💼 Work and residence permit (Permiso de residencia y trabajo)
For legal work in Spain, it is necessary to have a job offer and a work permit that the employer initiates in your name. After approval, a residence permit is also issued. There are special categories for highly qualified workers, seasonal workers, and self-employed individuals.
🧾 NIE number (Número de Identidad de Extranjero)
NIE number is a unique identifier for foreigners who want to stay in Spain for a long time. To obtain the NIE number, the foreigner must submit documentation and pay the corresponding fee.
🏛️ Golden visa (Golden Visa) – no longer issued
The Golden Visa allowed residence permits to investors who invested at least 500,000 € in real estate. However, the Spanish government has announced the abolition of this visa, considering it contributes to rising prices and reducing the availability of housing for local residents. The status of existing requests is still subject to regulation.
🌍 Digital Nomad visa
Since 2023, Spain offers a visa for digital nomads, which allows a stay of up to 5 years with tax benefits. It is intended for people who work remotely for foreign companies. It is necessary to prove stable income and a remote work connection outside of Spain.
💍 Marriage or registered partnership with a Spanish citizen
Stranci who are married or registered partners with a Spanish citizen have the right to apply for a residence permit through family reunification. The process includes proving a real relationship, stable residence, and financial capacity.
🎓 Study visa
Students enrolled in accredited educational institutions in Spain can submit a request for a temporary residence permit valid during the duration of their studies. During their stay, students have the right to work up to 30 hours per week with permission.
🏡 Property purchase
Purchasing real estate does not automatically guarantee a residence permit, except in specific cases (such as the previous Golden Visa). However, owning real estate can help in the process of applying for a non-profit residence permit (Residencia No Lucrativa), intended for people who have sufficient income and do not plan to work in Spain.
💶 Non-profit (Non-Lucrative) visa
This visa is intended for foreigners who want to live in Spain without the right to work, but with proof of regular income from abroad. It is ideal for retirees, investors, or people who want to stay in the country longer without working. It is necessary to prove financial capacity (e.g., bank statement, pension checks) and provide private health insurance. The visa is issued for one year and can be extended.
